Q: What is the difference between Atlas and “PPP”? Is Atlas a PPP service?
A: Atlas employs some of the GNSS techniques and concepts that are commonly used in Precise Point Positioning (PPP) applications. However, the technology components of the Atlas system are not restricted to published PPP techniques, because they employ innovative implementation notions that are different than what is understood to be a typical PPP implementation. The technology components that have been exclusively created as part of Atlas include control center software, message design, and rover implementation, among other areas. Because of the difference in core implementation techniques, Atlas performance figures and application features often differ from those published and understood as a typical “PPP” solution performance. Therefore, even though Atlas has conceptual similarities with the “PPP” technique, its performance and characteristics as a real-time correction system are unique, and can only be described as “Atlas”.
